Bernadette McCann House began providing services to women and children experiencing abuse in 1979. Over the past 45 years, our mission has expanded to include all those who experience abuse. Today, we have a variety of services available to women and men, as well as children and youth. We are also committed to exploring options of services that directly involve those who cause harm to others. It’s the work we do.

When someone is experiencing “abuse, domestic violence, intimate partner violence, family violence, gender-based violence” however you may want to phrase it, it takes courage for them to reach out for help. Sadly, most people who experience abuse, tell us that it was confusing for them to figure out who to call or where to go for help. Bernadette McCann House strongly believes in making things easier for those affected by violence, their family and friends, to get the help they need. It’s the work we do.

Bernadette McCann House knows how hard it is to take that first step, to engage in that first conversation. For 45 years, we have been answering calls on the Support Line, listening to clients, providing safety plans and risk assessments, providing support through a complicated and complex journey, making referrals and advocating for other services when required. Bernadette McCann House is the “System Navigators” for people who are experiencing abuse, domestic violence, intimate partner violence, family violence, gender-based violence.” This includes family and friends who are concerned about someone they know who is experiencing abuse. Over 45 years of experience has taught Bernadette McCann House, that although the word used to describe “abuse” may change from time to time, the existence of abuse in Renfrew County, has not changed. We are here to help YOU navigate through the system, by providing support as you connect to our services or when required, other services within Renfrew County. We strongly advocate for YOU and try to make a challenging situation less complicated. We start by listening to what your needs are and move forward with you, to where you want to be.
